Western Growers CEO Will Testify at House Committee Hearings on Immigration Saturday
4 August 2006 Western Growers President and CEO, Tom Nassif, will be an official witness at the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Resources field hearing on immigration on Saturday, August 5. The hearing is entitled "The Importance of Border Security on Federal Lands" and is scheduled to take place at West Hills High School in Santee, CA. Western Growers and Nassif have been leading proponents of the need for a comprehensive immigration reform package which would meet the needs of the agriculture industry. A growing labor shortage has been attributed in large part to the current state of immigration policy and the lack of a guest worker program to provide a legal stable workforce. The Resources Committee hearings are the latest in a series of hearings being held across the country during the summer. This is the first official testimony by Nassif and Western Growers. Nassif is a former U.S. Ambassador and was an official in the Reagan Administration, holding the posts of Deputy and Chief of Protocol (A) for the White House and, later, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near East and South Asian affairs. In 1985 he was named by President Reagan as his ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco. Nassif will be available for interviews before and immediately after his testimony.
