Towns, Cities Pass Resolutions Urging Impeachment
28 March 2006 Towns, Cities Pass Resolutions Urging Impeachment Brattleboro, Vermont, has joined nine other townsand cities, five state Democratic parties, and 19 localDemocratic committees in passing resolutions urging theimpeachment of President Bush and in most cases VicePresident Cheney. "Hopefully if enough towns startpassing these somebody will take action," Brattleboro TownRepresentative Dora Bouboulis told the Burlington FreePress. "It's about starting a movement and helping themhave the courage to act." ImpeachPAC is working withProgressive Democrats of America and local activists to passsimilar resolutions around the country, and has created akit to assist local organizations in the task: http://www.impeachpac.org/resolutions Impeachment has become a live topic in the U.S.media, including the Washington Post, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, and the Vermont Guardian. Forums are beingheld around the country on the topic of impeachment, as inthis video: http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/?q=node/9700 According to ImpeachPACPresident Bob Fertik, "Congress and the national mediadismiss the majority of Americans who support impeachment aspowerless and irrelevant. But ordinary Americans refuse toremain powerless, and they are using the basic tools ofDemocracy - like Town Hall Meetings and local resolutions -to begin impeachment from the bottom up. These local effortshave already persuaded several Members of Congress tosupport John Conyers' bill to investigate President Bush'simpeachable offenses. We hope this movement will ultimatelypersuade all 435 Members of Congress to perform theirConstitutional duty to hold President Bush accountable forhis innumerable High Crimes." ImpeachPAC WashingtonDirector David Swanson added, "This week we are going to seethe Senate Intelligence Committee again effectively refuseto investigate Bush's misleading pre-war statements, theSenate Judiciary Committee take up the topic of Censure, andthe Senate and the media face the issue of the permanentU.S. military bases being built along an oil pipeline inIraq. Meanwhile, a bipartisan group of Congress Members isplanning a push for an open House debate on the war, and theSupreme Court tomorrow begins hearing arguments on thequestion of Bush's claimed right to detain peopleindefinitely without charge or access to counsel. All ofthis is happening in the context of Bush's recent admissionthat he has no intention of ever pulling all U.S. troops outof Iraq. People across the political spectrum are opposingthis war and are taking offense at this President and VicePresident routinely behaving as if they were above the law. We're building a movement for impeachment to restore therule of law and end this administration's illegal adventurein Iraq." ### Authorized byImpeachPAC THIS ISSUE Lead NZ News NZ Politics World News FeaturesInternational News Nigeria: Agreement to Hand Over Taylor Vital Step - Nigeria s announcement that it will consent to the transfer of former Liberian President Charles Taylor to Liberia is a landmark step toward ensuring justice for West Africa, Human Rights Watch said today.
