The Mexican Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property Elects New President

The Mexican Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AMPPI), elected by unanimity Manuel M. Soto as its new president for the period 2004-2007. Mr. Soto is a senior partner in one of the most prestigious law firms of Intellectual Property in México, Uhthoff, Gomez Vega & Uhthoff, S.C.

Mr. Soto will succeed Martin Michaus as president. The new board of directors of AMPPI will be as follows: Manuel M. Soto (President), Sergio Olivares Lobato (International Vice president), Agustín Velázquez (National Vice President), Patricia Becerril (Treasurer), Bernardo Herrerías (Secretary), Miguel Angel Margain (Commissions Coordinator), Eduardo Kleinberg (Regional Groups Coordinator & Special Affairs).

For the new president the main challenges of AMPPI are to encourage a culture of intellectual property and reinforce the intellectual property rights by direct actions against piracy.

Manuel M. Soto has more than 30 years of experience in the Intellectual Property field, he majored in law by the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, and has a post grade in business administration by Drake University, in Des Moines, Iowa. Mr. Soto is an active member of AMPPI since 1971.
