Sidley Austin LLP Elevates 5 to Partnership in Los Angeles, 37 Throughout Firm

Five lawyers in the Los Angeles office of Sidley Austin LLP are among the 37 associates and counsel elevated to partnership in the firm, which now has 575 partners in offices in the United States, Europe and Asia. As of July 1, the new Los Angeles partners are Jeffrey E. Bjork, Corporate Reorganization and Bankruptcy; Max C. Fischer, Litigation; Brian C. Flavell, Real Estate; Jonathan M. Kaplan, Corporate and Finance; and Amy P. Lally, Litigation.

Jeffrey E. Bjork is a partner in the Corporate Reorganization and Bankruptcy Practice. His practice focuses on representing clients in all aspects of bankruptcy and insolvency matters, including representing debtors- in-possession, secured lenders and syndicated bank members in bankruptcy financings and out-of-court workouts, sellers and purchasers of assets in bankruptcy, banks and commercial landlords in connection with real estate- related bankruptcy and restructuring matters and defendants in preference and fraudulent transfer litigation.


Mr. Bjork, who had been an associate, received his J.D., with distinction, from Emory University School of Law. He received his B.A., magna cum laude, from Pepperdine University.


Max C. Fischer, 36, is a partner in the Litigation Practice. He represents companies across the country in all aspects of their business relationships, consumer relationships and employment and labor relationships with employees. Mr. Fischer counsels companies on disciplinary matters, reductions in force, voluntary separation programs and the separation of individual employees.


Mr. Fischer, who had been an associate, received his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law. He received his B.A. from the University of California - Santa Cruz.


Brian C. Flavell, 37, is a partner in the Real Estate Practice. He practices in all areas of real estate law. Prior to joining the firm, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Stephen V. Wilson, United States District Court for the Central District of California.


Mr. Flavell, who had been an associate, received his J.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles. He received his M.S. from Ohio State University and his B.S., cum laude, from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.


Jonathan M. Kaplan, 34, is a partner in the Corporate and Finance Practice. He provides advice in connection with public and private company mergers and acquisitions, corporate financing transactions and general corporate transactions.


Mr. Kaplan, who had been an associate, received his J.D. from New York University School of Law and his B.A., with Provost's Honors, from the University of California - San Diego.


Amy P. Lally, 32, is a partner in the Litigation Practice. Her practice focuses on all areas of litigation, including land use litigation, product liability litigation, Proposition 65 litigation and litigation under California's Unfair Business Practices Act.


Ms. Lally, who had been an associate, received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. She received her B.A., summa cum laude, from Boston College, where she was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society and the Cross and Crown Honor Society.
