Shirley Man Indicted for Distributing Child Pornography on the Internet, Reports U.S. Attorney

25 December 2005

A Shirley man appeared in federal court today in connection with his indictment on charges of distributing and possessing child pornography via the Internet.
United States Attorney Michael J. Sullivan and Kenneth W. Kaiser, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in New England, announced that JOHN R. FARRAR, age 45, of 120 Ayer Road, Shirley, Massachusetts, appeared in federal court today to enter a plea of not guilty on a six-count indictment returned today by a federal grand jury. The indictment charges FARRAR with five counts of distributing child pornography, and one count of possessing child pornography.
According to the indictment and other documents previously filed with the Court, FARRAR invited persons in child pornography chat rooms to trade child pornography with him. It is alleged that he thereafter sent child pornography images, including videos, to an undercover FBI agent who responded to FARRAR's invitation to trade. Special Agents of the FBI executed a search warrant earlier this year at FARRAR's residence and seized his computer system.
If convicted, FARRAR faces a mandatory minimum 5-year prison sentence up to a maximum penalty of 20 years. He also faces a fine of $250,000, 3 years of supervised release, and forfeiture of his computer system.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy Q. Feeley in Sullivan's Major Crimes Unit.
The details contained in the indictment are allegations. The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
