Oklahoma City University School of Law to Honor Distinguished Women in Law
9 May 2006 Oklahoma City University School of Law will honor distinguished women in law May 18 at its Legal Affair dinner and gala. This year's Legal Affair will recognize two former OCU School of Law professors, Marjorie Downing, who taught from 1972 to 1997, and Nancy Kenderdine, who taught from 1977 to 2005. Proceeds from the event go toward scholarships in their names. Several OCU School of Law alumna also will be honored. Retired Judge Reta M. Strubhar will accept the Justice Marian P. Opala Award for Lifetime in Achievement in Law. Strubhar was the first woman appointed to the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals since its formation in 1907. M. Susie Magaw-Viele will accept the Alumni Association Award for Community Service. She has worked with many non-profit organizations including the Oklahoma Heart Association, National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, and Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Judge Patricia D. MacGuigan, who serves as an administrative law judge for the Oklahoma Corporation Commission Oil and Gas Division, will be named Distinguished Law Alumna. Keri C. Prince will be named Outstanding Young Alumna. In 2003, Prince joined Pre-Paid Legal Services Inc., in Ada, Okla., as its first general counsel. Scoggins & Cross, in Oklahoma City, will receive the Law Firm Mark of Distinction award. Its principals are Linda G. Scoggins and Laura L. Cross. Presenters are Lawrence K. Hellman, Richard E. Coulson, Von R. Creel, Brooke S. Murphy, C. Wesley Lane II, and Judges Carol M. Hansen and Marian P. Opala. Marianne Vannatta is mistress of ceremonies. Mack K. and Vicky Martin are event chairs.
