OJ Simpson Memorabilia Order Refused
25 January 2005Alfred Beardsley said he plans to return the credentials to Simpson but would not say how.
The order was issued in November after a closed-door court hearing to determine whether Simpson was hiding assets from the family of Ron Goldman, who was slain with Nicole Brown Simpson in 1994.
Beardsley said attorneys for the Goldman family had given him until Monday to turn over the credentials, which he now believes were stolen from Simpson, along with other items the former football star kept in storage after he moved to Florida.
Beardsley said he was concerned lawyers for Goldman's family would take legal action against him but said, "basically I'm in the middle because Mr. Simpson has a claim on these items, but so do the families of the victims."
Calls to lawyers representing Goldman's family were not immediately returned Monday night.
A criminal court jury in 1995 acquitted Simpson of murder charges following a televised trial that grabbed national headlines for weeks.
In 1997, Goldman's parents and estate, along with Nicole Brown Simpson's estate, were awarded $33.5 million in judgments after a civil jury found Simpson liable for the slayings, but the money has gone largely unpaid.
