Tomorrow, Tuesday, June 27, at 10:30 a.m., Raphael Picard, the Chief of the Innu Council of Pessamit will be announcing his intention to reactivate a lawsuit concerned with the illegal construction of hydro-electric facilities on the First Nation's ancestral lands (Nitassinan), including the building of the Manic-5 Dam. The suit, which is being brought principally against both the Government of Canada and Hydro- Québec, is one of the most far-reaching lawsuits ever to be brought on behalf of First Nation rights within Canada, the financial amounts involved being based on an exhaustive study carried out by renowned economists.


Chief Picard will make this announcement at a press conference at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday June 27, in the Bersimis Room of the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel, 900 René-Lévesque Boulevard West, in Montreal.
