NEWSFLASH: David Parker Resigns All Portfolios


In a briefannouncement at the beginning of caucus today the PrimeMinister Helen Clark told media that she had accepted anoffer from David Parker to resign from all portfolios. Shesaid Mr Parker had discussed the situation with seniorcolleagues and come to the conclusion that he should stepdown.


In a standup with Radio New Zealand Mr Parker saidhe had also reflected upon comments made in themedia.


Yesterday Mr Parker resigned from the role ofAttorney General following an expose in Investigate Magazineconcerning his making false declarations in documents filedwith the Companies Office.


This morning, according to aspokesman for the PM, Mr Parker approached the PrimeMinister and advised her that on reflection he wanted tostep down from all portfolios.


The Prime Minister saidthat Trevor Mallard would take on the role of Minister ofEnergy and Pete Hodgson would take on the Transportportfolio. Michael Cullen yesterday took back the job ofAttorneyGeneral.
