National Sheriffs' Association endorses Appriss products
6 October 2005The National Sheriffs' Association, the leading professional organization for law enforcement officials, has given its stamp of approval to two products offered by Appriss Inc. for use by law enforcement/corrections. The NSA's Endorsement and Marketing Committee, a body that reviews numerous products and services, gave its recommendations to the NSA Board of Directors -- which officially endorsed both VINE(R) (Victim Information and Notification Everyday), the nation's first automated system of victim notification; and JusticeXchange(TM), the nation's only real-time "who's in jail" database. VINE allows crime victims across the country to obtain timely and reliable information about criminal cases and the custody status of offenders 24 hours a day -- over the telephone, through the Internet, or by e-mail. Victims can call to inquire about the current status of an inmate and can register to be notified immediately upon a change in the inmate's status, such as a release, escape, or court appearance. The patented VINE service handles more than 400,000 calls per month and is available in more than 1,500 communities in 40 states, including 20 of the nation's largest metropolitan areas. JusticeXchange makes up-to-date information on offenders held in jails across the country available to criminal justice and law enforcement officials via a secure website. Offender data includes biographical information, charges, photographs, and incident reports. The product is currently being used in Arkansas, New York, Utah, and Kentucky, as well as by numerous Federal agencies and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. "Appriss products have been adopted by so many sheriffs' offices across the country because they simplify the process of protecting victims and tracking offenders," said Tom Faust, executive director of the National Sheriffs' Association. "This endorsement means that NSA will encourage law enforcement agencies to consider use of both VINE and JusticeXchange as part of their law enforcement strategy." Established in 1940, the National Sheriffs' Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising the level of professionalism among sheriffs, their deputies, and others in the field of criminal justice and public safety. The NSA offers training, legal assistance, legislative advocacy, and other services to its 3,088 member offices throughout the United States.
