Michigan Attorney General Arrests Oscoda Internet Sexual Predator

17 November 2005

Attorney General Mike Cox announced today the arrest of an Oscoda man for using the Internet to accost a child for immoral purposes and for distributing obscene matter to a minor. "My office is committed to stopping sexual predators from accosting our children on the Internet or subjecting them to harmful images," said Cox. "Working together with parents, we can make the Internet safer for our youngest citizens." Attorney General investigators arrested Oscoda resident Damin Montgomery Allen, 39, at his home Monday. Magistrate Jennifer Huebel arraigned Allen Monday in East Tawas' 81st District Court on 10 felony charges, including four counts of Using a Computer to Commit a Crime - Accosting for Immoral Purposes, a 10-year felony, and six counts of Distributing Obscene Material to a Minor, a four-year felony. Magistrate Huebel set Allen's bond at $100,000/10 percent and he will be back in court November 22 at 10:30 a.m. for a preliminary examination. Cox alleges in the complaint that between June 30, 2005 and November 14, 2005, Allen used the Internet to contact what he believed was a 14-year-old girl to arrange a sexual encounter. Allen failed to appear at the designated meeting location and was arrested at his home. A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. Since 2003, Cox's Child and Public Protection Unit has arrested 78 Internet child sexual predators and pornographers. Attorney General Cox encourages parents to visit http://www.michigan.gov/ag for tips on safe Internet usage for children. Citizens can also report suspected Internet child predators via the Report Internet Abuses Against Children link, or by calling the Child and Public Protection Unit at (313) 456-0180.
