10:00 a.m. The class action lawsuit, brought against the Federal Government on behalf of thousands of veterans in October 1999, seeks redress from the federal government for years of failure to properly administer the funds of mentally and physically disabled veterans who had been deemed incapable of managing their money. The Auditor General of Canada noted in 1986 that the government had failed in its duty to manage these funds, and in subsequent court appearances the government has acknowledged its role as a trustee.
