Les Weisbrod Elected Vice President of Association of Trial Lawyers of America

24 July 2006

Les Weisbrod, a partner in the Dallas law firm of Morgan & Weisbrod, was elected to serve a one-year term as vice president of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America during the organization's 60th annual convention in Seattle, Wa.

Weisbrod, who specializes in medical malpractice and drug product cases, succeeds Lewis S. "Mike" Eidson, Jr., of Coral Gables, Fl., who becomes president of the 60,000-member association.

"I am honored to be chosen for a high position in an organization that defends the jury system against powerful interests working to undermine our courts," Weisbrod said. "ATLA is willing to fight for people so they can have just as fair a shake in the courtroom as the wealthiest corporation does."

With about 65,000 members worldwide, ATLA promotes justice and fairness for injured persons, defends the constitutional right to trial by jury and strengthens the civil justice system through education and disclosure of information critical to public health and safety. The organization provides lawyers with the information and professional assistance they need to serve clients successfully and protect the democratic values of the civil justice system.

ATLA is dedicated to preserving the civil justice system and making sure that powerful special interests are held accountable when they engage in misconduct or negligence.

Weisbrod, who served as ATLA's secretary for the past year, received his J.D. from Southern Methodist University Law School in 1978 and his B.A. from Claremont Men's College in 1975.

Weisbrod is a partner in the Texas law firm of Morgan & Weisbrod, which has full-service offices in Dallas and Houston, and affiliate offices in Austin, El Paso and Lubbock, Texas.

He has successfully tried multiple medical malpractice cases and obtained more medical malpractice punitive damage jury verdicts for his clients than any other attorney in the United States, according to Professor Michael Rustad, a nationally recognized expert on punitive damages. Weisbrod's verdict against Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas was reported as one of the 100 most important verdicts in the United States by National Law Journal in 2003. He was featured in Dallas' "D" Magazine as one the best lawyers in Dallas for 2003-2005, and as "a Texas Super Lawyer" for 2003-2004 in Texas Monthly.
