Leon Higginbotham Corporate Leadership Award Dinner WHO: Citigroup Corporation WHEN: Wednesday, June 28 6:30 p.m. - Reception 7:30 p.m. - Dinner WHERE: Grand Hyatt New York Park Avenue at Grand Central New York, New York DETAILS: The Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law ("Lawyers' Committee") will honor Citigroup Inc. tomorrow night for its commitment to diversity with the prestigious A. Leon Higginbotham Corporate Leadership Award. Citigroup will be recognized for its exemplary corporate leadership with respect to advancing equal opportunity - particularly leadership in recruiting, retaining, and promoting a diverse workforce. Citigroup Chairman and CEO, Charles Prince, will accept the award, named in memory of A. Leon Higginbotham who served as Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit from 1977 to 1993. Judge Higginbotham was the first African American to serve as a Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Anne M. Mulcahy, chairman and CEO of Xerox Corporation will present the award to Prince. Mulcahy will also serve as a dinner co-chair along with Brad S. Karp, a partner with Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, and William J. Perlstein, a partner with WilmerHale law firm. "Citigroup has fostered an environment where diversity is embraced, where employees are promoted on their merits, and where people treat each other with respect and dignity," said Barbara R. Arnwine, executive director of the Lawyers' Committee. "By recognizing Citigroup's leadership and commitment to diversity, the Lawyers' Committee hopes other corporations will be inspired to replicate Citigroup's successful business model," added Arnwine. Over the years, Citigroup's efforts on diversity and inclusion have been broadly recognized. In 2005, Citigroup was inducted into Working Mother magazine's Hall of Fame to honor its 15th time on the magazine's list of "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers." Citigroup received a 100 percent ranking on the Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index and was recently named one of the Top 50 Companies for Diversity by DiversityInc magazine. In the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Citigroup partnered with the Lawyers' Committee and other non-profits to help alleviate the adverse financial impact inflicted upon communities in the affected areas. "Citigroup's efforts to assist those impacted by the storms are another reason why the corporation is so deserving of this award," noted Arnwine. This year's Higginbotham dinner raised over $2 million. Profits from the dinner will support the Lawyers' Committee's mission to serve as an advocate for underrepresented communities. --- The Lawyers' Committee is a nonpartisan, nonprofit civil rights legal organization, formed in 1963 at the request of President John F. Kennedy to provide legal services to address racial discrimination. For more information on the Lawyers' Committee, visit http://www.lawyerscommittee.org http://www.usnewswire.com/
