King & Spalding Continues Expansion of its Intellectual Property Practice With Addition of New Partner Jill McWhirter

19 October 2005

King & Spalding LLP, a leading
international law firm, announced today that Jill McWhirter, a lawyer with
extensive experience in patent and trademark law, has joined the firm as a
partner in its intellectual property practice group. McWhirter possesses a
broad range of experience in patent, trademark and copyright counseling,
diligence, prosecution and litigation matters. She will be resident in the
firm's Houston office.
"We are excited to welcome Jill to King & Spalding and to be building our
intellectual property capabilities in Houston," said Randolph C. Coley,
managing partner of King & Spalding's Houston office. "Jill's experience
complements well our strong litigation and energy industry capabilities and
will help us broaden many existing client relationships while serving as the
foundation for an IP practice in our Houston office."
McWhirter joins King & Spalding from the Houston office of Howrey LLP,
where she was a partner. At King & Spalding she will counsel and litigate a
broad range of intellectual property matters, including obtaining, enforcing
and licensing U.S. and foreign patents and trademarks. She has counseled major
corporations in developing and improving intellectual property protection and
has assisted clients in all aspects of intellectual property litigation
matters. Previously, McWhirter worked for Westinghouse Electric Corporation as
a nuclear engineer and served as an intern to then Justice Craig Enoch of the
Texas Supreme Court. She earned a B.S. in nuclear engineering from the
University of Michigan and a J.D. from St. Mary's University School of Law,
magna cum laude.
King & Spalding has significantly expanded its intellectual property
practice group over the past two years. In 2004, the firm added a team of 20
patent litigators to its New York office. The firm's IP practice comprises
more than 70 lawyers and patent agents based in its Atlanta, Houston and New
York offices. The practice helps clients protect and enforce their copyright,
trademark and patent rights worldwide.
King & Spalding opened its Houston office in 1995 with three litigation
attorneys; today the office has grown to 85 attorneys focusing on a diverse
array of litigation and transactional law.
