International Trademark Association Announces the 2005 - 2006 Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition Entry Forms Due November 1, 2005

11 October 2005

Preparations for the 15th Annual Saul
Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition, sponsored by the International Trademark
Association (INTA), are officially underway. INTA is a not-for-profit
membership association of more than 4,800 trademark owners and
professionals. The Competition introduces intellectual property law
students to the challenging and varied issues involved in trademark and
unfair competition law and promotes education in the trademark field. While
participating in a mock courtroom experience, teams of students
representing United States accredited law schools have the opportunity to
develop their brief writing and oral advocacy skills as they compete with
other law students.

"This Competition has always provided a great intellectual and competitive
challenge for the students and an enjoyable experience for all participants
-- students and judges," says Susan Neal, Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court
Competition chair and co-founder of Neal & McDevitt, LLC, Chicago,
Illinois. Ms. Neal added, "This year should be the best ever!"

The Competition introduces two sibling rivals, Patrick Doherty, the
Plaintiff and Kevin Doherty, the Defendant, who both open distinctive male
grooming establishments that boast similar hockey paraphernalia. The case
has been appropriately titled: Metro vs Retro: Brotherly Love From Rink to
Sink.

The due date for entry forms is Tuesday, November 1, 2005 and brief
submission is Friday, January 13, 2006. Four Regional Competitions will be
held on Saturday, February 25, 2006, in Atlanta, Chicago, New York and San
Francisco, and the four winning teams will advance to the National Finals
on Saturday, March 18, 2006, in Washington, D.C.

The Best Team, the authors of the Best Brief, the Best Oralist Team and the
Law School of the Best Team will receive cash prizes ranging from $250 to
$1,500, which also includes second place winners. Financial and mentoring
sponsorship opportunities are available, and INTA member firms are
encouraged to sign-up and support student teams. Interested parties can
gain immediate information and register on-line at
www.inta.org/events/academic.html.

2005 teams from the following schools emerged as first place Regional award
winners: in the East, Boston College Law School; in the Midwest, Marquette
University Law School; in the South, University of Alabama; and in the
West, Santa Clara University School of Law.

Finals for the National Competition were held in Washington, D.C., at the
U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. The appeal was argued before
distinguished jurists from the United States Court of Appeals for the
Federal Circuit and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent
and Trademark Office (USPTO).

In addition to the Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition, INTA sponsors
programs such as the Ladas Memorial Award Competition for excellence in
writing on trademarks and unfair competition, and recognizes academic
excellence through the Pattishall Medal for Teaching Excellence of
Trademark and Trade Identity Subjects. The next Pattishall Award will be
presented in 2008.

Additionally, INTA, in conjunction with an accredited law school, offers a
course for academic credit on International Trademark Law during its Annual
Meeting.
