International Tax Conference Addresses Issues That Impact Business
15 January 2006 Greenberg Traurig Shareholder Ozzie A. Schindler is program co-chair of the 24th Annual International Tax Conference set for January 26 and 27 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Miami. Schindler, known for his work in international tax law, frequently lectures and writes articles about international tax issues. He will address the issue of foreign corporations that become Passive Foreign Investment Companies (PFICs). The conference will also include several high-level government officials from the IRS as speakers on a wide range of policies and topics of current interest. Greenberg Traurig Associate Seth Entin will speak about foreign corporations that become Controlled Foreign Corporations (CFCs). Entin speaks regularly at tax seminars and is the Chair of the Outbound International Tax Committee of the Tax Section of The Florida Bar. "South Florida, as a gateway to and from Latin America, is increasingly a pivotal point in the global supply chain and also an attractive location for regional offices to target Latin American business. Taxation plays a large role in these decisions," said Schindler. "With the increasing immigration into the U.S. not only of wealthy individuals, but more frequently, their children or grandchildren, there are complex tax rules that are not understood very well and are full of traps for the unwary." This year, the two-day conference explores such topics as current developments in inbound and outbound investment, foreign trusts, the global supply chain, as well as the impact of new regulations. The conference is co-sponsored by the Florida Bar Continuing Legal Education Committee, the Tax Section of the Florida Bar, and the Florida Institute of CPAs.
