International Law Firm Greenberg Traurig Opens Tampa Bay Office

25 July 2006

The international law firm Greenberg Traurig LLP announced today the opening of its Tampa Bay office, its 27th office in the United States and the 8th office in Florida. Greenberg Traurig has approximately 1,600 lawyers and governmental professionals and has additional offices in Europe and Asia. Joining the firm as the managing shareholder of the downtown Tampa office is David B. Weinstein, a trial lawyer with a national reputation in complex environmental and other litigation.

Weinstein's practice includes such clients as SYSCO, Cardinal Health, Mosaic, Coronet Industries, and MacDill Federal Credit Union. Recently, Weinstein successfully defended a Florida Circuit Court Judge in a highly publicized trial and attendant arguments before the Florida Supreme Court.

"Although for decades Greenberg Traurig has worked with clients in Florida's West Coast and Central regions, we are delighted to have a new office join the Tampa Bay business community," said Cesar L. Alvarez, the firm's president and chief executive officer.

"We are excited by the Tampa Bay region. It offers a dynamic environment for future business growth. Last year, the area had the most new jobs created in Florida, which led the nation in job creation. To support this high-level growth, there are more than 25 higher education facilities in the region, including a major state university and Florida's oldest law school, one of the nation's top-ranked airports, and Florida's largest seaport. Clearly, this is a great time to be joining this vibrant community."

Weinstein shared both his enthusiasm and his vision for the future of the Tampa office. "I am honored to have the opportunity to join Greenberg Traurig and to represent clients' interests in this region and beyond. The firm's entrepreneurial and collaborative platform provides my team with a unique opportunity to work with some 1,600 talented colleagues in order to offer clients a wide range of experience on both a national and international basis. We are opening the Tampa office with an established litigation, environmental, construction, and business practice, and we anticipate developing a full- service office to serve a wide variety of client needs. By being part of Greenberg Traurig we can provide our Tampa Bay clients a unique opportunity to service their legal needs throughout the United States, as well as in Europe and Japan."

According to Matt Gorson, Greenberg Traurig's national operating shareholder for its Southeast offices, "A good fit is very important to our model for successful growth. When we add an office, we do so because we believe we have found a local team that will complement our firm. Indeed, more than 95 percent of our growth has come from having talented individual lawyers like David Weinstein join Greenberg Traurig."
