Inland Attorney Returns from China Study To Help Businesses Expand Trade

Riverside, CA (PRWEB) July 15, 2006 -- Attorney, Frank Edward Harrigan III, principal of the Harrigan Law Group, a full service business law firm, based in Riverside, has recently returned from Shanghai, China, having participated in the American Bar Association approved, 30 day, 23rd Annual Summer Program in Chinese Law at East China University, in Shanghai, which ended July 15.

The program, which was attended by law professors, attorneys, and law students from four continents, is designed to allow study of the rapidly changing and increasingly important Chinese legal system which is an integral part of "new" China's policies of reform and its profound economic growth which is reported consistently at rates as high as 10% per year. "Among the principal things we learned," reported Harrigan, "is that China's global economic ambitions have necessitated that China adopt, what the Chinese characterize as ‘rule by law' including their newly revised Constitution, Law of Civil Procedure, Company Law, and other commercial laws."

"As important as, or more important than, the laws the Chinese have adopted, however, are the subtleties of how the Chinese legal system actually works, especially in commercial matters." Harrigan added. "For example, success in doing business with China often involves local partnering. The legal structures for partnering in China, however, are unique to the Chinese system and to Chinese law so these must be understood to ensure a successful business relationship," he explained.

The primary reason Harrigan chose to participate in the program of study, conducted by law professors from China, Australia, and the U.S., was to be able to better serve the needs of business clients desiring to expand their businesses through international trade and investment, especially trade involving China. "The pace and scope of economic activity throughout China, is simply staggering," Harrigan said, "and this trip additionally allowed us to form or renew relationships with important business, legal and administrative contacts, that can facilitate our being optimally effective in achieving the goals of international trade clients."
