Health Insurance Support Expanded for Hurricane Victims

25 September 2005

Tens of thousands in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Texas were forced to make fast changes to their health insurance or seek policyholder service in the aftermath of recent storms. Those who lost jobs due to business closures typically need to find affordable temporary coverage before October 1.

Relocated storm victims and relief workers alike found themselves outside of their health plan?s preferred provider network and need to switch to a plan without a network or enroll in a local network plan.

MedSave.com responded by publishing additional guidance on the most commonly asked questions in an article titled ?Health Insurance for Hurricane Victims? at http://medsave.com/health-insurance-for-hurricaine-victims.htm.

Providing fast and accurate responses to user questions related to the storms is the first priority at OnlineAdviser. The hours of free telephone support for hurricane victims will be expanded. Fees for overnight delivery of health insurance policies and ID cards will be temporarily suspended.

Tony Novak, who provides most of the live telephone support at MedSave.com, says that most people will find the transitions easy and relatively affordable. The southeast states generally provide a favorable regulatory environment that stimulates the availability of affordable health insurance. ?A storm in the northeast would prove far more difficult to handle? say Novak about the available health plan options, noting that far fewer affordable health insurance plans are available in many northern states.

Of course, the storms do nothing to make health insurance more affordable or more widely available. Those who found health insurance unaffordable or unavailable before the storms will continue to find the same problems now.

MedSave.com specializes in low cost and short term health insurance with user support provided by OnlineAdviser service. Over 50,000 people nationwide have used this service since 1997.
