Fosamax Lawsuits Heat Up In S.W. Florida. Ennis & Ennis, P.A. Takes On Merck For Local Residents

16 April 2006

In an interview with WUSA News in Washington D.C. Attorney David F. Ennis of Ennis & Ennis, P.A., indicated that Merck is "clearly putting profits before people". That statement has rung true for hundreds of Fosamax users that have been affected by serious Fosamax side effects such as osteonecrosis of the jaw. Until recently osteonecrosis of the jaw and its apparent relation to the use of bisphosphonates was not readily understood. However over the last year doctors and dentists are seeing more confirmed cases that clearly indicate a link between bisphosphonates and osteonecrosis of the jaw. Osteonecrosis (pronounced OSS-tee-oh-ne-KRO-sis) of the jaw is an uncommon condition that involves the loss, or breakdown, of the jaw bone. It can be a serious condition. Symptoms include, but are not limited to:

Pain, swelling, or infection of the gums

Loosening of teeth

Poor healing of the gums

Numbness or the feeling of heaviness in the jaw

Partial or complete loss of the jaw bone

Although a relationship between the use of bisphosphonates such as Fosamax and osteonecrosis of the jaw exist doctors are still unsure why. Fosamax and other bisphosphonates are used to stop, prevent, and even reverse bone loss. Doctors are puzzled as to how drugs like Fosamax are able to prevent bone loss and at the same time destroy the bones in the jaw. One theory is bisphosphonates may reduce the amount of blood flow to the jaw, but experts have yet to prove this theory.

According to Attorney David F. Ennis one thing is clear; the drug makers did not sufficiently make patients aware of the potential for such serious side effects with Fosamax use. Attorney David F. Ennis, a former resident of Naples, feels a need to help those in his community that have been affected by medications such as Fosamax. Attorney David F. Ennis of Ennis & Ennis, P.A. is a leading mass tort lawyer and in addition to the Fosamax lawsuits is currently handling hundreds of cases for other drugs such as: Vioxx, Bextra, Celebrex, Zyprexa, Risperdal, Seroquel, trasylol, the Ortho Evra Birth Control Patch, and Viagra.
