Dragons burn Outlaws, 20-19

DENVER - Tim Booth had a trio of two-point goals and Ryan Powell tallied seven points on four goals and three assists as the San Francisco Dragons (3-2) defeated the Denver Outlaws (4-2) 20-19 on Saturday night at INVESCO Field at Mile High. The win tilts the season series to the Dragons, winners of two of the teams' three meetings.

Brendan Mundorf led the Outlaws with a career-high six-goal performance, earning the rookie attack a shower of socks from the 8,847 fans in attendance. Denver's offense got significant contributions from Brian Langtry's five points (3-2-5) and four points each from Matt Brown (3-1-4) and Jeff Sonke (1-2-4). Sonke and Sims each netted his league-leading fifth two-pointer of the season.

Mundorf, who compiled seven goals through his first three games, helped Denver to an early 2-0 lead with a dive across the crease, followed by his second goal 45 seconds later.

The Dragons ended the quarter with six unanswered points, including two goals from Powell and the first of Booth's two-point shots, to end the opening quarter with a 6-2 lead.

Brad Reppert scored 18 seconds into the second quarter, extending the Dragons' advantage to 7-2.

Mundorf ended San Francisco's run at 1:49 of the second stanza with his third marker of the game, followed by a man-up goal from Hunter Lochte 41 seconds later to cut the Dragons' lead to 7-4.

Denver continued to chop at San Francisco's advantage as Matt Brown's drive through traffic and a man-up laser from Sims deep beyond the two-point arc brought the Outlaws to within a point at 8-7.

The two teams battled back and forth as consecutive goals from Langtry and Mike Law tied the game, 9-9 at halftime.

Denver opened a 15-12 lead on a two-pointer by Sonke and tallies by Brown, Langtry and a pair by Mundorf. The Dragons responded by scoring the quarter's final three goals, including Booth's second of the night with 17 seconds remaining in the third frame, tying the game at 15.

San Francisco opened up a 20-17 lead on a pair of two-point goals by Booth in the fourth quarter.

Brown scored with 18.6 seconds remaining in the game to cut the lead to 20-19, but the Outlaws were unable to get off a solid shot in the game's waning seconds.

The Outlaws remain on their homestand when they welcome their conference-rivals Los Angeles Riptide on Saturday, July 1 to INVESCO Field at Mile High.
