Beyond 20/20 Provides Tennessee Bureau of Investigation with Dynamic Crime Reporting Solution

31 May 2006

OTTAWA, May 30 - Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), the state's primary criminal investigation agency, has released their annual crime report using the Beyond 20/20 Vista data analysis and reporting solution. By deploying Beyond 20/20 Vista, TBI has been able to dramatically improve access to information about criminal incidents.

The agency makes crime data available for internal use by law enforcement and criminal justice practitioners, and publishes crime statistics for external use by advocacy groups, the media, colleges and universities, and the general public.

"Previously, we did not have any access for the public except for static PDF documents and hard copy reports", said Jackie Vandercook, Statistics Assistant Director at the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. "TBI staff had to run the vast majority of reports based on a request basis even for law enforcement agencies. Now with Beyond 20/20 Vista, we can provide self-service capabilities to all types of information users."

With the use of Beyond 20/20 Vista, TBI crime statistics staff will reap substantial benefits. The process to generate annual publications was very labor intensive requiring data entry, proofing and editing by TBI staff which delayed the release of annual data. Now staff members are able to design reports that will generate the data in a format that can be published without additional data entry. The system will also be used as a quality control mechanism with reports designed to check for data validity and help identify data problems for audit purposes.

Beyond 20/20 ad-hoc analysis and reporting capabilities are also being used by over 560 contributing law enforcement agencies state wide with all data updated on a nightly basis.

"With quick access to data, agencies are better able to see what is occurring in their jurisdiction and identify emerging crime issues" said Beyond 20/20 CEO Clarke Bruce. "The resulting insights will assist law enforcement in targeting offender groups for deterrence and victim groups for educational programs."
