Back Bay Man Sentenced for Marijuana Trafficking, Reports U.S. Attorney

15 November 2005

A Boston man has been sentenced in federal court for conspiracy to distribute marijuana. United States Attorney Michael J. Sullivan; June W. Stansbury, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in New England; and Colonel Thomas G. Robbins, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, announced that DOUGLAS BANNERMAN, age 47, of Huntington Avenue, Boston, was sentenced on Thursday, November 10, 2005, by U.S. District Judge Douglas P. Woodlock to 8 years and 6 months' imprisonment, to be followed by 4 years of supervised release. On August 29, 2005, BANNERMAN pleaded guilty to conspiring to possess and distribute marijuana. At the earlier plea hearing, the prosecutor told the Court that, had the case proceeded to trial, the evidence would have proven that between January and December 2003, BANNERMAN conspired with others to distribute more than 100 kilograms of marijuana in and around the greater Boston area. The case was investigated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Massachusetts State Police. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rachel Hershfang, Deputy Chief of Sullivan's Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Unit.
