Attorney Robert R. McMillan Re-Elected As Public Member To The AMA Board OfTrustees

The American Medical Association (AMA) announced today that Robert R. McMillan, an attorney from Long Island, N.Y., was re-elected to a third and final term on its Board of Trustees. McMillan has served on the board since 2002 as its first non-physician member.

The AMA House of Delegates agreed to add a public member to its Board of Trustees at its Annual Meeting in 2001. The public member must be elected by the House of Delegates and can serve a maximum of three two-year terms. McMillan is currently the chair of the Audit Committee and has been named to the AMA Foundation Board of Directors.

McMillan is an attorney practicing law on Long Island with the firm of Bee, Ready, Fishbein, Hatter & Donovan, LLP in Mineola, N.Y. He presently co-hosts "Face-Off", a popular television public affairs program broadcast by PBS in the New York metropolitan and Albany areas. He also writes a column for Long Island based Anton Community Newspapers and periodically writes for Newsday and the Charlotte Sun.

In 1989, McMillan was appointed to the Board of the Panama Canal Commission by President Bush and served as chairman. In 1987, he founded the Long Island Housing Partnership, Inc., which facilitates the construction of affordable housing, and served as the Partnership's chairman until 2001. He was a corporate officer for Avon Products, Inc. for 18 years, where among other responsibilities, he ran the Asia-Pacific Profit Center. He was appointed by Governor George Pataki to serve on the New York State Task Force on Local Government Reform and served on the New York State Commission on Powers of Local Government (Wagner Commission).

McMillan served in the United States Army from 1952-1954 and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal while serving in Korea. He graduated from Adelphi University and received his Juris Doctor degree from Brooklyn Law School.

He is married to Phoebe Parker McMillan and is the father of three children.
